About Our Event #NESS

The News and Editorial SEO Summit is the first event dedicated exclusively to all things SEO for news publishers. 

Visibility in Google’s ecosystem is a crucial source of readers for all online publishers, and information about how to maximise this can be hard to find. So, we decided to bring together the smartest minds in publishing and SEO and ask them to share their insights and expertise. 

Founded by John Shehata, Global VP of Audience Development at Condé Nast and Founder of NewzDash, and Barry Adams, SEO Consultant at Polemic Digital and publisher of the SEO for Google News email newsletter, the inaugural NESS will be entirely online and feature speakers from The Atlantic, The New York Times, Google, Mediahuis, The Globe and Mail, Mashable, and Amsive Digital.

John Shehata – Founder

John Shehata is Global Vice President of Audience Development Strategy at Condé Nast overseeing SEO, Social Media Strategy, Audio Growth and Email & CRM for all premium brands (Wired, Epicurious, Glamour, Vanity Fair, Vogue, The New Yorker, GQ, etc.). John has 21+ years of experience in the digital marketing space working with top national brands and fortune 500 companies.

Barry Adams – CoFounder

Barry Adams is a veteran of the industry, having been active in SEO since 1998. He specialises in technical SEO and SEO for news publishers, and has worked with some of the world’s largest media brands including News UK, The Guardian, Fox, Mail Online, and TechRadar. Barry also writes an irregular email newsletter on SEOforGoogleNews.com.

Nicholas Thompson

Nicholas Thompson is the CEO of The Atlantic, a position he has held since February 2021. He was formerly the editor-in-chief of WIRED. He’s also a former contributor to CBS News, a frequent public speaker–who gives talks and moderates events around the world–and an occasional musician with three albums of instrumental acoustic guitar music. He was previously the editor of NewYorker.com, a co-founder of the multi-media publishing company the Atavist, and the author of The Hawk and the Dove: Paul Nitze, George Kennan, and the History of the Cold War.
